To calculate a percentage off, multiply the price by (1 − percent ÷ 100): 20% off $70 is $70 × 0.8 = $56. Give this percent off calculator, or discount calculator, any two of Price, Percent off and Sale price, and it finds the third.
How to calculate percent off
The discount is the part of the price you don't pay. The sale price is what's left:
discount = price × percent off ÷ 100
sale price = price − discount
Put together, that's the whole discount formula:
sale price = price × (1 − percent off ÷ 100)
Under every result the calculator writes out this line with your numbers: 15% off $45.99 is 45.99 × (1 − 15 ÷ 100) = 39.09, so you save $6.90. Prices are rounded to the cent and show two decimal places only when there are cents. A discount given as a fraction works too: 1/3 off is 33.33% off. To work with the fraction itself, use the fraction calculator. For percent of a number or percentage change, there's the percentage calculator.
To get a sale price, enter Price and Percent off, then press Calculate.
Find the discount percentage
When you know both prices, the percent off is the price drop divided by the original price:
percent off = (price − sale price) ÷ price × 100
So $80 down to $60 is (80 − 60) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25% off. A $29.99 item at $19.99 is 33.34% off, and you save $10. Percentages are rounded to two decimal places.
To use this page as a discount percentage calculator, fill in Price and Sale price, leave Percent off empty and press Calculate.
Two discounts in a row
Percentages off multiply. They don't add up. With 20% off and then 10% off, $80 drops to $64, then to $57.60: that's 28% off in total, not 30%, which would give $56. The second percentage is taken off a price that's already been reduced.
There's no field for a second percentage. For a double or triple discount, calculate the first one, send the sale price back to Price with Use, and enter the next percent off.

FAQ
What is 20% off of $70?
It's $56: $70 × 0.8 = $56, and you save $14. Enter 70 in Price and 20 in Percent off to check.
How do you calculate a 20% discount?
Multiply the price by 0.2 to get the discount, or by 0.8 to get the sale price in one step. On $80 that's $20 off and a sale price of $60. A 5% discount works the same way with 0.05 and 0.95: 5% off $70 is $66.50, and you save $3.50.
How do I find the percentage of a discount from the price?
Subtract the sale price from the price, divide by the price and multiply by 100: (80 − 60) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25%. In the calculator, enter both prices and leave Percent off empty.
Is 20% off and then 10% off the same as 30% off?
No. 20% off takes $80 to $64, and 10% off that gives $57.60, while 30% off $80 is $56. The two together come to 28% off.
How do I find the original price before a discount?
Divide the sale price by (1 − percent off ÷ 100): $60 at 25% off was 60 ÷ 0.75 = $80. Enter Percent off and Sale price, leave Price empty, and the calculator finds it.
